The (Not Quite Fire Engine Red) Red Rocks of Sedona

I was pleasantly surprised to wake up and find that our hotel for the night was purple.  Not a light purple, but a super bright, majestic purple fit for royalty.  It was as if a childhood dream came true!  Set it in front of some red rocks (that were more earthen tones of orange and tan than red, just to be fair) and you have one beautiful sight!

There was a great loop that allowed visitors to see the formations from all different angles.

Since it was my brother’s birthday, we stopped for some real man food at a local BBQ joint and got a large platter of meat.  He was in heaven!

The last stop in Sedona (and on our Arizona vacation) was a cathedral built into the side of the red rocks.  The design was definitely unique for the area!  It was hard to decide whether the inside or the outside was more beautiful!  The inside featured rows of candles and large windows looking out into the lower lying areas.  The outside had signs for the flowerbeds with religious references, great overall design and spectacular views of the surrounding area.  I can’t imagine having the vision to put that specifically shaped building on that particular rock.

I was not a huge fan of the temperature that reached 115 degrees, but I could really get used to having cacti hanging out in random fields instead of the trees that we have in Seattle! I love them!
