This morning, I went on a bus tour of Vienna. I had a chance to see some of the main parts of the city during my afternoon walk yesterday, but did not really understand the significance of many of the buildings. The center of the city is essentially a round street that has some very beautiful buildings and embassies around the outside.
The tour ended at Schonbrunn Palace where we got to see all the rooms of the palace and also the beautiful grounds. I can only imagine how amazing it would be in the summer when everything is green and all the flowers are in full bloom, but it was still beautiful in its own foggy way this time of the year.
I met a lovely doctor from Australia on the tour, so after getting dropped off at the city center, we ventured to the Museum of Fine Arts. Here we saw some paintings and artifacts from all over the world. Their special display was of paintings of Europe during the winter time. I even saw the real version of a screen print that used to hang on the wall of my parent’s house (at least I think…or at least it was the same style).
We then parted ways, but I continued to get my fill of museums when I headed to the Belvedere, a large mansion that housed not only architectural beauty, but also an incredible permanent collection which included works from Renoir, Degas and Monet. You couldn't take pictures inside, but I really like the outside. It was beautiful!
